Madison County Friend of 4-H
by Judy Gallimore, Advisor for Helping Hands Happy Hearts

The Friend of 4-H is a person who wasn’t all about himself; one who didn’t care if he was in the background.  A person always striving to make things better for the future and possessing the love and dedication to help the youth become all they can be.  This person always listened and usually said what was on his mind; a very strong voice and at times, showing very strong opinions.

This Friend of 4-H is Bob Clawson, aka Chicken Bob, as he was known by many around the county.  Bob was a beloved friend of mine, was an advisor with the Helping Hands Happy Hearts 4-H Club, sat on the Livestock Sales Committee and was one great Poultry Key Leader.

Bob is missed each and every day.  With all the hard work Bob put in the 4-H Program and Junior Fair, he will always be in our thoughts as his work and dreams were to someday have a new poultry barn at the Madison County Fairgrounds.  The youth will benefit from Bob's work and dreams for many, many years to come. He will forever be a part of the poultry program here in Madison County.  Even though he won't be here to see the finished products of his work, in reality, our hope is to carry on Bob’s work well into the future.

He never stopped thinking, planning, sharing and working “To Make The Best Better” for the Madison County 4-H Program.  Only a week before he lost his courageous battle to cancer, he was still talking about 4-H.  Bob was the “Better” in our motto, “To Make the Best Better”.

We are so lucky that we had a man like him in our 4-H “corner”.  Bob was a very dedicated volunteer, one who is sadly missed every day and for this and so much more, we feel Bob Clawson, “Chicken Bob”, is truly a Friend of 4-H!

Bob was nominated because I truly believe he was what a true Friend of 4-H is all about.

Bernadette and Carson Clawson, Bob’s wife and daughter, accepted Bob’s Friend of 4-H Award at the 4-H recognition program held November 15.
