With fall right around the corner, it’s time to think about cover crops! Cover crops are planted in the garden to boost soil health before the next growing season. They can build soil organic matter, recycle nutrients, and control weeds.

Luckily, we provide free cover crop seeds for the community. This year, we are offering cereal rye and an oat/radish mix. The oat/radish mix grows quickly and dies in the winter, while cereal rye is established late into fall and grows in the spring.

There are several pickup locations throughout the county:

  • Ohio State Extension Madison County: 217 Elm Street London, OH 43140
  • London Public Library: 20 E 1st St, London, OH 43140
  • Hurt-Battelle Memorial Library: 270 Lilly Chapel Rd, West Jefferson, OH 43162
  • Mt. Sterling Public Library: 60 W Columbus St, Mt Sterling, OH 43143

Seeds are available while supplies last, so don’t delay! To learn more about cover crops, check out this factsheet: https://ohioline.osu.edu/factsheet/hyg-5814.
